The Gilbert family shared a great story with us that we hope will inspire you to do just that. This is what they wrote:
"It was a proud parent moment. We were moving across country and on a long road trip. We stopped to eat dinner at a hometown-type restaurant in Tennessee. The restaurant was celebrating its anniversary of opening and our 14-year-old daughter and our 9-year-old son were asked if they wanted to enter a raffle for some prizes.
"Both of the kids were reluctant, particularly our young son because he said that he never wins anything. They entered the raffle, and we went on to eat dinner. At the end of our time there, our 9-year-old son Ethan ended up winning the grand prize — a new red bicycle. He couldn’t believe it. He was ecstatic and filled with joy as he walked out toward the parking lot with his brand new red bike.
"Among all of the accolades and congratulations on our way to the car, we heard a little boy say 'Wow, I’ve never had me a bike before!' Ethan immediately turned to me and asked if he could give it away to this young boy.
"I was unsure what to tell him. I asked if he wasn’t thrilled to have won it. He happily replied, 'I love that I won it, but it makes me even happier to give it away to this boy that doesn’t have one.'
"It wasn’t just Ethan’s willingness to give that inspired all of us but that he immediately acted on it. Ethan smiled and beamed as he handed his prize over to that happy boy.
"Thank you Ethan for reminding your family that it is better to give than to receive."
