ROY — A man died in an officer-involved shooting after hours of negotiation failed, police said.
Officers from the Roy City Police Department responded to the report of a threatened suicide in the area of 3700 West and 5300 South at about 4 a.m., according to Roy police detective Matt Gwynn. After several hours of negotiation, he said the Ogden Metro SWAT Team arrived on the scene and took over communications.

The 35-year-old man died in an officer-related shooting at about 11:15 a.m., according to Gwynn. He wasn’t aware of whether the man threatened officers prior to the shooting, but said he did appear to have been in possession of a weapon at the time.
“Officers set up a perimeter and negotiation continued with the negotiator through the phone,” he said. “I know at one point that negotiation stopped and then a shooting took place. I don’t know the details relating to that shooting.”
Additional individuals were initially in the home, but they were released early on before the shooting occurred, according to police.
Gwynn said he did not know why the man had suicidal feelings. Police were notified of the threatened suicide because the man had called a suicide hotline, after which the hotline notified local dispatch.
The investigation of the shooting has been turned over to the Weber County Attorney's Office, following the implementation of officer-involved shooting fatality protocol, according to Gwynn.
