SALT LAKE CITY — The Division of Wildlife Resources will release more than 11,000 pheasants across Utah before the upcoming hunt.
The general pheasant hunt begins Nov. 1 and pheasants are being released on 56 public hunting areas a few days before the hunt and then before each weekend of the hunt, according to a DWR news release. Pheasants will also be released early on the week of Thanksgiving to be available for people hunting during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
Utah’s general pheasant season runs Nov. 1-16 across most of the state, but on state and federal land, it runs until Dec. 7.
DWR officials said hunters should remember that in many areas, hunting with non-toxic shot is required and lead shot may not be used.
Pheasants are good at hiding and hunting with a trained bird dog can often help you find them, the news release said. However, hunters who don’t have dogs can still have success by walking slowly with a companion opposite them to help flush out birds.
