SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a man who allegedly stabbed another man with a pair of scissors.
Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, a man sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the Rescue Mission, 463 S. 400 West, noticed Matthew Belloff walking past and talking to himself, Salt Lake City police Det. Richard Chipping said. The victim, whose arm was hanging out the window, made a comment to him.
In response, Belloff, 30, stabbed him in the arm with a pair of scissors before fleeing on foot, police said.
Officers quickly caught up to Belloff, who was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and use of a controlled substance. The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Belloff told officers the stabbing was "collateral damage," according to a probable cause statement.
Misdemeanor charges of use or possession of drug paraphernalia and assault were filed against Belloff in August in a separate case.
