MOAB — A Moab man taking pictures of a waterfall slipped and fell to his death on Tuesday.

Patrick Flannigan, 65, was taking pictures about 6:15 p.m. in the Big Bend Campground area, six miles downriver from Goose Island off state Route 128, when authorities believe he slipped on the rocks and fell approximately 20 feet, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office.

Flannigan's body was found in a pool of water beneath the waterfall.

The sheriff's office said the weather at the time was "intermittent" with occasional periods of heavy rain. The drive along state Route 128 is popular for observing and photographing waterfalls, according to the sheriff's office.

His body was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
