SALT LAKE CITY — A 16-year-old Provo girl accomplished one of her bucket list items when she had the opportunity to meet her namesake, singer Beck Hansen, at the Twilight Concert Series Thursday evening.
Beck Hansen said her parents loved the music of singer Beck Hansen, and since her mother’s maiden name is Beck, they thought it was a perfect name for their daughter. When they learned the singer would be performing in Salt Lake City, the family decided to petition social media to help make her dream of meeting him possible.
Hansen attended the concert with her father and brother, but said she wasn’t really expecting to meet the singer.
“I wasn’t really expecting anything and I was preparing to not have anything happen,” Hansen said. “Even then, it would have been fine and it would have been a good experience to just have all of this happen.”
Hansen said Beck gave an amazing performance and when the concert ended around 10:30 p.m., her father told her that he had been contacted by Beck’s assistant and given VIP passes to go backstage.
“The bass player saw what was happening (on social media) and messaged one of our friends,” she said. “His assistant contacted my dad and they started getting it figured out. And it was actually supposed to be a surprise for me.”
Hansen said her mother met them after the concert and the whole family got to meet Beck and his band. She said it was an amazing experience and she couldn’t have asked for a better interaction with him.
“He came out and he was the nicest person I think I’ve ever met,” she said. “He came and he gave me a hug and he signed a bunch of stuff and we got a bunch of pictures. He was so genuinely interested. It was amazing. He said he’d never actually met anyone named Beck Hansen.”
Hansen said the singer told them that they would be on the list to see him the next time he performed in Salt Lake City.
