SALT LAKE CITY — The United States Men’s National Team will play its final match of group play Thursday, taking on a difficult Germany team for a chance to advance to the next round of play. It’s a must-see match, and fortunately for you there are several avenues to watch the game on the big screen.

On Sunday, the U.S. ended its match in a draw after Portugal scored a final- second equalizer in stoppage time, keeping the U.S. from leading Group G and automatically advancing to the next round. Now, the U.S. is looking for some World Cup magic.

Although watching the game at work on your laptop or on a small TV at home seems appealing, there are some great locations to catch the action on the big screen. The following are locations other than your local sports bar/grill where watch parties will be in full force.

EnergySolutions Arena

There’s probably no place where you can watch the U.S. take on Germany on a bigger screen. If you’ve never been to EnergySolutions Arena since the new video boards were installed, it’s well worth the visit — even if you don’t like soccer.

The screens are 42 feet long by 24 feet high, and command your attention wherever you are in the arena. It’s basically 52, 80-inch TVs pushed together. So, yeah, a lot of HD sports action coming your way.

“We invite the public to come together for the critical World Cup soccer against Germany in an enthusiastic atmosphere while enjoying the television coverage on the unsurpassed quality of our video screens,” Mark Powell, vice president of events, said in a statement. “This building has been the site of many memorable sports moments from the Utah Jazz to the Olympic Winter Games. The video boards allow us to share the World Cup with the community.”

The arena will open its doors at 9 a.m. Thursday, free to the general public. The game begins at 10 a.m.

Rio Tinto Stadium

Not to be outdone by its basketball counterparts, Rio Tinto Stadium will also be open to the public to watch the U.S. take on Germany. Although the RioT doesn’t have the same big video boards ESA does, it will have Real Salt Lake players practicing prior to the match.

The stadium will open to the general public at 8:30 a.m. to watch the open practice. The practice will then be transformed to a watch party at 10 a.m. when the match begins.

So, really, if you’re a fan of Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando — and I know you are — honor them with your presence at the RioT to see how well the U.S. does in their final match of group play.
