SALT LAKE CITY — The Metro Gang Unit said Public Enemy No. 1 was arrested Sunday night.
Sgt. Paul Barker with the Unified Police Department said Utah Highway Patrol officers arrested Jamie Ralph Hamlin after a brief chase at around 8 p.m. Sunday. Hamlin, a convicted felon, had previously been arrested for aggravated assault, theft, numerous weapons violations, drugs and resisting arrest.
According to UHP, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle at the area around 600 North and 1000 West. The vehicle fled, but the trooper located the abandoned vehicle shortly after.
Residents in the area pointed out to the trooper which way the individuals went on foot, along with giving descriptions of the individuals.
The trooper pursued and located a male matching one of the witness descriptions. The man fled but was caught. The man gave a false name but was later identified as Hamlin.
Police confirmed the vehicle Hamlin was in was stolen out of Bountiful.
Utah Highway Patrol, Metro Gang Unit, Salt Lake City Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation are still trying to locate the driver, whose identity has been confirmed, along with an unidentified female.
Hamlin, 33, was named Public Enemy No. 1 on Friday.
