VERNAL — Two Duchesne County women in their 70s received minor injuries Sunday in a crash with a tanker truck, according to Uintah County sheriff's deputies.

Deputy John Fairey said the women were heading west on U.S. 40 just outside Vernal about 4 p.m. when the 70-year-old driver attempted a U-turn. The driver of an oncoming tanker truck tried to avoid the car, but hit the rear fender on the passenger side and spun the car around into traffic, the deputy said.

The driver of the car and her 74-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to Ashley Regional Medical Center as a precaution, Fairey said. The driver of the tanker truck did not report any injuries.

The names of those involved in the crash have not been released and no citations have been issued. The crash remains under investigation.
