SALT LAKE CITY— An injured firefighter was transported to a hospital after fighting a brush fire in a field behind Shriners Hospital Monday afternoon.

The fire burned two acres and firefighters had been positioned north of the fire to protect nearby houses, according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

The fire was contained, and no houses were damaged. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

There was also a two-house fire in Taylorville that quickly grew to a 2-alarm fire as flames were shooting through the roof, Clint Mecham, captain and public information officer for Unified Fire Authority, said. Firefighters from four different agencies worked together to put it out.

"The whole side of the house was on fire, and I thought there was a car or something behind it that had caught on fire," one person who witnessed the fire said. "There was a lot of black smoke."

Occupants of the house were treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
