WEST JORDAN — A Magna man convicted of manslaughter in a shooting at a Taylorsville apartment complex was sentenced to prison Tuesday.
Rodney Amato Liti, 34, was convicted by a jury in April of manslaughter and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, second-degree felonies, and obstructing justice and possession or use of a controlled substance, third-degree felonies.
On Tuesday, 3rd District Judge Bruce Lubeck ordered Liti to serve concurrent prison terms for all of the charges — two to 20 years for manslaughter, one to 15 years for possession of a dangerous weapon and identical sentences of zero to five years for both the obstruction and possession of a controlled substance charges.
Liti was charged in connection with the Nov. 5 shooting death of Anthony Fili at the Summerwood Apartments, 5624 S. 1900 West. Officers responded to a shots fired call at the address and arrived to find Fili, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to charging documents.

A woman at the apartment told police she was with Fili earlier in the day when Liti sent a text message saying he was going to "blast" both her and Fili. When the pair returned to the apartment, Liti and Fili began to argue before the woman said she saw Liti shoot Fili, the charges state.
Liti was seen trying to flee the scene, but was caught by police. Liti apparently apologized for running and said he did so because he had drugs on him, according to the charges.
A witness spotted Liti throw something into the bushes, later identified as a loaded magazine and a handgun, and a search of Liti led police to find Fili's wallet and a spent shell casing.
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge ordered Liti to pay restitution in an amount to be determined by the Utah Board of Pardons.
