TAYLORSVILLE — An 18-month-old boy found submerged in a backyard pond on Tuesday died Wednesday.

James Ryder Young passed away about 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Unified Police Department, about 23 hours after he went missing.

On Tuesday, a 23-year-old father was working in his backyard, 3465 W. 5735 South, when he lost sight of his son in the heavily wooded yard, which was also filled with bushes and plants. He called police about 11:50 a.m., after the boy had been missing for 10 to 15 minutes.

A short time later, the toddler was found submerged in one of two landscaped ponds. The pond was about 3 feet deep. The boy was believed to have been underwater for possibly as long as 15 minutes. Paramedics attempted CPR before the boy was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center.
