SALT LAKE CITY — Brrrrrr ... so much for the indoor practice facility.

The Utes practiced outdoors in Rice-Eccles Stadium on Tuesday. It was about 40 degrees outside. That was fun. From my vantage point it looked like it took the team a few reps to get warmed up in the cold as well.

One of the most interesting position battles continues to be the running back group with Lucky Radley, James (Bubba) Poole, and now Karl Williams. All three got some run with the first team and today, Bubba Poole was shredding the defense.

One of Poole's greatest assets is his hands. He is really good at catching the ball out of the back field, planting his foot in the ground and getting up field.

I love watching Karl Williams play as well. He is not nearly as quick as Radley or Poole, but just does everything right and continues to evolve and impress. I still don't think he has been tackled this spring.

Tyron Morris Edwards also looked good today. He continues to put himself in good positions to make plays. It will be interesting to see the safety battle in the fall when the Utes have everyone in camp. Morris, Henderson, and Tevin Carter will be here in the fall to compete for the job. Carter is expected to contribute from day one which will create depth in the defensive backfield.

Once again after practice we gave Kenneth Scott the mic with all of his fellow wide receivers and we just simply hope you enjoy. We will run the interview in this week's Crimson Corner, be sure to check it out. While we were filming, basically all the media and coaches stopped to watch what they were doing. The wide receiver group looks like a great team within the team.

It was good to go up and talk to the Red Rocks this afternoon as well. We spoke to head coaches Greg and Megan Marsden as well as Tori Wilson and Nansy Damianova about last week's regionals meet in Alabama. The Red Rocks have qualified for Nationals for a record 38th consecutive time.

All of them said that the tougher meet is regionals. Getting through that pressure to make it to Nationals is one of the most difficult things these gymnasts have to do.

We also "spoke" with Rocky Mountain Marsden, the gym dog. We tried to interview the dog, but he tried to eat the microphone. We'll have an inside look at Rocky in this week's Crimson Corner as well.
