DRAPER — A Pleasant Grove woman has been charged with theft after allegedly calling in a bogus robbery in order to steal cash from her employer.
Destiny Adams, 27, called police on Dec. 8 claiming she had been robbed at knife point during her shift at Blockbuster Videos, 1265 E. Draper Parkway, by a man who took a bag of money, according to charges filed Friday in 3rd District Court.
A Blockbuster manager responding to the store said a total of $878 was missing.
Because Blockbuster's internal security system wasn't working, police reviewed security footage from neighboring businesses, which did not reveal a suspect entering the store, charging documents state.
Adams later told police she faked the robbery because she needed money, and that she had kept store deposits instead of taking them to the bank, according to the charges.
Blockbuster's operations manager told police Adams was the subject of an internal investigation, which had revealed through receipts, bank records and alarm company logs that the employee had been stealing from the company for years, including $6,155 in missing deposits between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012, charges state.
Adams was charged with theft, a second-degree felony.
