SALT LAKE CITY — Millions of Christians throughout the world are celebrating the season of Advent.
The children of Wasatch Presbyterian brought the sounds and the look of angels to their special service Sunday morning on the third day of Advent. During the four Sundays of the Advent season, the messages remind Christians that it means arrival.
"This is really central to the advent idea, having the eyes to see what is there for us now," said Rev. Scott Dalgarno, pastor of the Wasatch Presbyterian Church. "And the bible speaks about angels visiting us unaware."
The month of preparation, for all who worship here and millions throughout the world, serves as a time of preparation leading up to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
The Kyremes-Park family puts Christmas in perspective by lighting the Advent wreath candles at dinner each evening.
"The hope that is brought forth in the season and the expectations with Jesus' birth," said Justin Kyremes-Park. "But also a reminder of those candles that haven't been lit, what we are waiting for."
They are grateful for a Church family that helps each one of them not to get too caught up in the shopping, the gifts, the Santa-oriented side of the holiday.
"Just every Sunday, just going to church helps us focus on him and gets us through the week without just (saying), 'I want that,'" said Izzy Kyremes-Park.
Advent is also about light, and this year they say so many are in need.
"It breaks my heart that for some people, things aren't calm and they aren't bright," said Amy Kim Kyremes-Park, "and for us to really recognize that Christ is our light and our salvation and is bringing light into the world and the kind of hope that I think people really need right now."
