SALT LAKE CITY — Volkswagen of American reported that it had its best October sales figures since 1972, when they sold the original Beetle. They report 34,111 vehicles sold, a 22.4 percent increase over October 2011, and 35.6 percent better than 2011 year-to-date.

This was despite having 25 percent of its dealers affected by Sandy at the end of the month.

The Jetta is the biggest seller of the line, with various TDI models accounting for almost a quarter of sales. The Jetta and Golf TDIs claim 42 mpg highway.

2012 Tiguan sales are up 60 percent, though that's still only 2,752 sold last month. Eos sales are down from 564 in October 2011 to just 331 in October 2012.

Brian Champagne checked out the Eos and the Tiguan. He says both cars have their own areas where they excel, but he got them backwards. See the video above.
