LEHI — If you've seen more flies around your home and have been swatting them away more than usual lately it's not your imagination. Even exterminators report seeing more flies than normal.
Ben and Andrea Olson are sick and tired of dealing with all the flies that have not only invaded their Lehi neighborhood, but also their home.
"I was trying to take a nap," said Andrea Olson "I was laying there they were like buzzing all over my head. I can hear them in my ears. I have to put the blanket over my head so I can get some rest."
Even if they do manage to get some flies out of the house, right when they think they've gotten the problem under control, "the door will get left open and we start all over. I've literally taped around the doors, hoping they won't get in," she said.
But those pesky flies just won't stop buzzing. It's become the talk of the neighborhood.
"Right now is the worst we've had it," said Asa Neilson "We do have a few farms around here, that's normal. This is excessive. It's not fun. It drives us crazy."
Neighbors have tried it all to deal with the problem: fly swatters, electric fly swatters, fly paper, and more. But nothing quite seems to do the trick.
As it gets colder, they should pretty much start leveling out.

"With the mild winter we had last year, the moisture we're getting right now, the humidity, a lot of those various things causes pest to higher and lower levels of pest activity," said Trevor Clark of Monster Pest Control.
But Clark says to hang in there because it shouldn't last too much longer.
"As it gets colder, they should pretty much start leveling out."
So the question then is what do we do until then. Exterminators say a lot of it is sanitation.
Pull Dumpsters and trash away from the house, keep food and trash bins inside covered and don't over water your yard. A big one is cleaning up after your pets as well.
If you are using fly traps put them away from the house. That may help draw some of them away.
