DRAPER — Voters in Salt Lake County had the opportunity to meet face to face with their Democratic candidates Wednesday night.
Many of the candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Peter Cooke and Salt Lake County Mayoral candidate Ben McAdams, gathered at the Draper home of LaVonne Maloney.

Though the turnout LaVonne Maloney's Wednesday night event wasn't overwhelming, many who attended were pleased with the outcome.Organizers said the event provided a chance for voters to get to know the candidates running for the state, House and Senate seats.
"I hope (voters) get that it's 60-plus days to the election. It's time to actually get involved," Maloney said.
One prominent Democrat who did not attend the function was Rep. Jim Matheson, but that didn't have anything to do with the Democratic National Convention going on right now in Charlotte, N.C.
Matheson said he chose not attend his party's convention so he could attend question and answer sessions with constituents. Being able to spend time with the Utah residents he represents is one of the best parts of his job, he said.
"I always put Utah first," Matheson said. "That's what I say in my campaign, but I do that in my actions too."
Matheson said that conventions are nothing more a week long infomercial for the political party.
