SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah announced Sunday that junior college transfer Princeton Onwas would not return as part of a member of the Runnin’ Utes next season.

“We wish Princeton nothing but the best in his future endeavors,” head coach Larry Krystkowiak said in a statement.

The university did not say whether Onwas was transferring or what his plans would be moving forward. However, with new recruits coming into the program, it is likely Onwas is moving on to find playing minutes elsewhere.

Onwas, an athletic 6-foot-5 guard/forward, brought an energy to the team that made the difference in many key games at the end of the season, particularly in the last seven games of season where he got the start. Onwas averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

Onwas will be most remembered for his athletic block against Arizona State, making ESPN SportCenter’s top 10 plays.

The junior guard/forward played two seasons at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas before transferring to Utah in the summer of 2013. Onwas received scholarship offers from Kansas State and TCU, but chose Utah because of the atmosphere and the experience provided to him when on a visit with assistant coach DeMarlo Slocum.
