SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah senior offensive lineman Zane Beadles was named to the preseason watch list for the 2009 Outland Trophy, presented to the top interior lineman in college football.
Beadles, a four-year starter for the Utes and a 2008 first-team all-MWC offensive tackle, was recently named to the preseason all-MWC team. He is also on the preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award.
Last year, Beadles was the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman for a Ute team that went 13-0 and finished with a No. 2 national ranking.
A mechanical engineering major scheduled to graduate in December, Beadles was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII team.
The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced Dec. 10. Beadles is one of two Utes to date to make a preseason watch list. Defensive end include Koa Misi (Hendricks Award) is the other.
