TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — University of Arizona researchers are trying to identify subtle tissue changes that could provide early diagnoses of ovarian cancer.
The university says Professor Jennifer Barton is leading a federally funded two-year project to identify imaging biomarkers for the deadly gynecological cancer.
Barton is a professor in biomedical engineering and several other academic disciplines.
She says ovarian cancer is difficult to detect early because of its location deep inside the body, few early symptoms and a lack of effective screening techniques.
The university's team includes researchers in physiology, medical imaging and obstetrics and gynecology.
