SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An Idaho man accused of shooting at emergency crews after his car crashed into a natural gas line in northern Utah is set to stand trial on an attempted murder charge.
The Herald Journal in Logan reports that 30-year-old Cade Austin of Preston, Idaho was ordered to trial after a Tuesday evidence hearing about the Dec. 15 crash near Lewiston, Utah.
Authorities say Austin started shooting at emergency workers moving toward the car to help after the crash.
Smithfield Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Hunt testified that he was trying to get Austin out of the car in case the broken gas line exploded, but Austin didn't cooperate. Instead, he pulled out a gun and fired.
Hunt said he shot back, injuring Austin.
Defense attorney Bryan Galloway didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
