JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State University officials say a tighter budget means employees likely won't receive raises for the fiscal year that began last month.

The Jonesboro Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1IEiNbn ) that historically, faculty and staff have received raises varying from 1 percent to just above 5 percent since 1999, with the exception of 2012 when none were given.

Spokesman Bill Smith says raises were given during the previous fiscal year. Faculty members also received an additional 1 percent merit raise for the past two fiscal years. And 404 employees received state-mandated longevity bonuses for being employed with the state for 10 years or more.

The school's budget is $184.5 million. It includes money for faculty promotions and equity, minimum wage increases and inflationary cost increases related to utilities, property insurance and software maintenance.
