MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Shelby County Schools is resuming the use of some charter buses for extracurricular activities now that the district has reviewed safety records of 36 companies that had provided services.
Media report the district released a new list on Monday of 17 authorized charter companies that schools may use to transport students.
The district suspended use of charter buses last week to do the safety review. That move came after a bus transporting basketball players and cheerleaders from Central High School caught on fire while traveling on Interstate 55. No one was injured.
Jefferson Travel and Tours, the company that owned the charter bus that caught fire, is not on the new list.
