COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Responding to concerns about Ebola, a western Iowa high school student has agreed to self-isolation upon returning from a mission trip to Uganda.
The Daily Nonpareil reports (http://bit.ly/1oBe2YA ) that Treynor Community School District officials had been hearing from people who worried about the student's potential exposure to Ebola. Superintendent Kevin Elwood said in a news release Thursday that the district contacted the student's family and says the student agreed to 21 days of self-isolation upon returning.
Uganda is in central Africa, more than halfway across the continent from the west African nations where so many people have died of the deadly disease.
Elwood says state and federal officials are not discouraging travel to central Africa, but also says the student's family "has taken into consideration concerns raised by others."
