DRAPER, Utah (AP) — A man convicted in the shooting of a Utah neighborhood watchman nearly four years ago has been released from prison.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/UqTjIl) the 44-year-old Reginald Campos declined to speak to reporters following his release Tuesday.
The licensed accountant said he acted in self-defense when he shot David Serbeck in July 2009 on a Bluffdale street.
He said he believed a stranger was following his frightened teenage daughter.
Serbeck, who was paralyzed in the shooting, said he was simply patrolling the neighborhood.
Campos was originally convicted of attempted murder and aggravated assault. The attempted murder conviction was later overturned.
In a plea deal with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to felony discharge of a firearm.
Serbeck is in prison for a 2012 conviction of unlawful sex with a minor, a 17-year-old neighbor girl.
