OCRACOKE, N.C. (AP) — Power has been restored on Ocracoke Island and officials have reopened the remote Outer Banks town to visitors after Hurricane Arthur slammed the island.
Tideland EMC said its crews had to repair 45 utility poles damaged by the Category 2 storm. The power was turned back on over the whole island Saturday night.
Road crews also repaired some damage on North Carolina Highway 12, which links Ocracoke to its ferry terminal.
Now that the electricity is on, ferry service has resumed and the state of emergency on the island has been lifted.
Ocracoke Island is only accessible by boat and plane.
Crews fixed NC 12 on Hatteras Island Saturday, reopening the island to visitors.
Arthur moved over the Outer Banks early Friday with winds of nearly 100 mph.
