DETROIT (AP) — A judge has set a $200,000 bond for a 49-year-old a Detroit foster home worker in the videotaped beating of a disabled woman with a mop handle and extension cord.
Police arrested Kadia Konate-Dennard after WJBK-TV broadcast a video of the beating of the 24-year-old woman Thursday night. Konate-Dennard was arraigned Sunday in Detroit District Court on five felony charges.
It's unknown if she has a lawyer.
WDIV-TV says nurse's assistant Dominique Blade shot the video and says Konate-Dennard told her "this is the way you have to handle" Vera Gossett, who is autistic and can't speak.
Gossett's family on Friday sued the suspect and Strathmoor Manor owner Bartholomew Ajulufoh in Wayne County Circuit Court. A woman answering his phone Sunday said he wasn't there, then hung up.
