CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada Assembly committee has defeated a measure that would have changed the state's presidential caucus to a primary election. Democrats on the committee said they were concerned with aspects of the bill that could hurt voter input. Two Republicans joined with Democrats to defeat the measure.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two people remain in critical condition at a Reno hospital with injuries they suffered in a head-on, wrong-way crash that killed two others on U.S. Interstate 80 in Sparks over the weekend. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the driver of the wrong-way pickup truck had been drinking before the crash.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Gambling industry participants and analysts agree that Internet betting is off to a slow start in the U.S. But despite challenges, panelists at a major gambling conference in Atlantic City say that Internet gambling has great potential for growth. Three states, including Nevada, offer Internet gambling.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A plan to create a scholarship program and a series of bonuses to tackle Nevada's severe teacher shortage has passed a major hurdle. The Nevada Senate voted today to approve a $15 million measure introduced last week by Gov. Brian Sandoval. It creates a scholarship program that could serve more than 200 future teachers over the next two years.
