WOODS CROSS, Utah (AP) -- Woods Cross officials say some residents got conflicting information about evacuations during a refinery fire earlier this month that left four workers with serious burns.

In a meeting Tuesday, the Woods Cross City Council looked at ways to improve communications during emergencies.

After the Jan. 12 Silver Eagle Refinery explosion and fire, residents within a half-mile were asked to evacuate to a local high school. But some got conflicting information about what type of evacuation was needed and where to go.

South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton says the glitch was with a community notification system that calls residents in an evacuation area.

He says the system didn't work the way officials thought it should have and that it isn't updated as often as it should be.
