PAGE, Ariz. (AP) -- The National Park Service says a fire at a remote marina in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area has destroyed as many as 20 moored boats.

Another 130 vessels anchored at the Halls Crossing Marina on Lake Powell in southern Utah were saved by firefighters, park rangers and private concession employees brought in from around the area, including park headquarters in Page, Ariz.

The fire broke out in covered boat slips at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday and was finally brought under control at about 3 a.m. Friday.

Glen Canyon Superintendent Stan Austin says in a statement that the fire crews kept the blaze from being even more devastating.

The marina facilities were extensively damaged, but no injuries were reported and no Park Service watercraft were damaged.
