PINEVIEW RESERVOIR — A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized after nearly drowning at Pineview Reservoir Sunday evening.

At 5:30 p.m., crews responded to a call of a possible drowning in the Cemetery Point area, according to Weber County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Horton.

The teen was swimming with her family when she suddenly went under the water. Horton said the girl was under for 1-to-2 minutes and was pulled ashore by her family.

When the marine patrol arrived, the teen was breathing but unconscious, Horton said. A medical helicopter transported the girl to Primary Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

The teen was semi-conscience when transported, Horton said.

Horton said the teen was in a designated swim area of the reservoir where it’s not required to wear a life jacket.

“It’s always a good idea to have a life jacket, but it’s not required in the swim area,” he said.
