WEST JORDAN — A man who prosecutors say was trying to recruit a 17-year-old girl to be in the Army National Guard has been charged with enticing a minor.

Kyle Ronald Ivory, 26, of South Jordan, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; and enticing a minor, a third-degree felony.

From about June to November 2016, prosecutors say Ivory sent text messages to a 17-year-old girl. "They talked about having sex with each other and sent pictures," charging documents state.

The two knew each other because the girl "was being recruited by (Ivory) to be a cadet in the Army National Guard," according to the charges.

Utah National Guard spokesman Lt. Col Steven Fairbourn said Ivory was a full-time recruiter in schools but was dismissed in December or January from that position after an internal misconduct investigation into his messages with the girl.

He still is a part-time soldier as the Utah Guard awaits an outcome in the courts. If the allegations are sustained, he will be dismissed, Fairbourn said.

Fairbourn said the accusations against Ivory go against the values of the National Guard.

"We find this type of behavior appalling and absolutely unacceptable," Fairbourn said.
