A plane believed to have had five to eight people on board has crashed near Moab, and there are no survivors.
The twin-engine plane crashed in Tusher Canyon, a remote area about a mile north and two miles west of the Canyonlands airport.
Pictures from a UHP helicopter show there's not much left. Just before 6 o'clock tonight, the Grand County Sheriff's Office received a call about a fire in a remote area. UHP determined it was a plane crash, but no one yet knows why the aircraft went down or who was on it.
"It appears the plane went down and it didn't go like straight down. It appears in the photos that the plane slid along the surface of the ground, and it's pretty rough out there; there are some gullies. It then caught on fire and came to rest," Grand County Sheriff James Nyland told us. He added, "It was engulfed in fire so much that we have no way to identify anyone just yet."
The area has been secured and the FAA and NTSB will begin an investigation tomorrow at 8 a.m.
