(KSL News) That rumor about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints looking to buy Facebook is not true!

As far-fetched as it might seem, the blogosphere has been buzzing lately with a story that the church was close to, was planning to, and was thinking about buying that popular social network Web site.

The rumor started on the technology blog of a northern California man yesterday and quickly spread through cyberspace. It said that the church's genealogy department was trying to buy the site in order to expand its family history library.

Today a church spokesman officially put the rumor to rest with a one-sentence statement: "This rumor has no foundation whatsoever."
