SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A portion of vehicle registration fees in Salt Lake County will be used to help fund a light-rail line to Salt Lake City International Airport.
The County Council voted 8-1 on Tuesday to approve the change. It's part of an earlier agreement between city officials, state legislators and the Utah Transit Authority.
The switch will divert $2 of the county's $10 vehicle registration fee toward the city's $35 million portion of the project.
The total cost of building the line along North Temple is estimated at around $350 million.
Work on the line is expected to begin later this year.
