SARATOGA SPRINGS — A woman originally arrested for investigation of causing a DUI-injury accident has been charged with automobile homicide.
Prosecutors say Dawn Lynn Grochowski, 52, of Saratoga Springs, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 on Aug. 25 when she failed to make a hairpin turn in her Jeep Wrangler while driving down Israel Canyon, west of Utah Lake.
"Her Jeep rolled 50 feet down the hill and landed on its carriage top," according to documents filed late last month in 4th District Court.
Trevor Nielson, 36, of Saratoga Springs, was in the back seat and died the next day from his injuries.
Police reported Grochowski's speech was "slow and slurred," and there was a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, according to court records.
"She admitted to drinking 'two Mickey's two hours apart,'" the charges stated. "Mickey" refers to a malt liquor beverage.
Grochowski was charged with automobile homicide, a second-degree felony. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19.
