WEST VALLEY CITY — Police say the two men dubbed the "Honey Bun Bandits" in a robbery and bomb scare at a Salt Lake City bank may also be connected to a holdup in West Valley City 10 days later.

West Valley police announced Monday the suspects accused of robbing Central Credit Union, 4090 S. 4800 West, on Dec. 27, match the description of two men who robbed a Zions Bank in Salt Lake City on Dec. 17.

In the Salt Lake City robbery, the two men left behind a wrapped Christmas package at the bank, 1420 S. 300 West, claiming it was a bomb. The box was found to contain Honey Bun pastries, earning them the "Honey Bun Bandits" moniker.

The suspects brandished guns in both robberies and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said. Surveillance video from the West Valley robbery shows just how dangerous.

"The fact that they stormed into the bank and very quickly proceeded forth with the robbery, jumping up onto the tops of the tellers' tables and so forth, was very concerning," said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.

While one robber grabs the money, the video shows his accomplice keeping watch, anxiously moving around with his weapon positioned to fire at any moment.

No one was hurt in the robbery, but police fear that could change if the Honey Bun Bandits are allowed to strike again.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of the pair.

Anyone with information about the men can contact West Valley City police at 801-840-4000, Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000 or the FBI at 801-579-1400.
