WEST JORDAN — Police removed a "suspicious package" from a Wells Fargo Bank location early Thursday after threats of a bomb were reported there.
Police say a man called them about 4:30 a.m. from the location, near 2640 W. 9000 South, making some sort of unspecified threat. When officers arrived, they began questioning a 20-year-old man who was sitting inside a car that was parked about 50 feet away from the bank building. They later arrested the man.
Officers also searched the vehicle and found evidence of a possible explosive, according to West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Steve Holmes. He said the man is also accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a window of the bank, which cracked the glass but did not go inside of the building or cause any other damages.
Roads surrounding the bank were closed for several hours Thursday as bomb squad members investigated the scene. Those road blocks have since been cleared. Officials were led to an undisclosed amount of iron oxide, an inorganic compound often used in makeshift bombs, in the parking lot of a nearby park.
