SOUTH OGDEN — A South Ogden man has been arrested in Rhode Island in what authorities are calling the largest drug bust in that state's history.
Detectives investigating a narcotics organization moving large drug shipments from the West Coast to Rhode Island conducted surveillance of Adilson Antonion Reyes, 29, and two California men over a period of several months last year, according to the Rhode Island State Police.
Their investigation culminated in a raid on a warehouse Saturday where authorities said they found 31 kilograms of cocaine in a hidden compartment of a car. Detectives arrested Reyes at a hotel and said they found more than $1.2 million in cash hidden in a semitrailer he owns.
The next day, authorities said they found another 35 kilograms of cocaine in a tow truck at the warehouse. The drugs' street value is estimated at $6.6 million.
Reyes and the two other men were arraigned Monday in a Rhode Island court on drug and conspiracy charges.
Reyes' criminal record in Utah shows only a 2009 misdemeanor conviction for telephone harassment in North Ogden.
