SUGAR HOUSE -- Sugarhouse Park hosted a 5K race Saturday with a twist.

Most races have lots of water on hand, but at this event racers carried as much water as they could hoist. The idea came from 13-year-old Stephen Jarman.

He learned people in a Kenyan village can't just turn on the tap for water. Instead, they have to carry it over long distances.

So he set up this race to raise money to build them a well.

"A bunch of the people are just like, wow, this is so hard," Stephen says. "These people in Africa do it every day a couple of times. Wow. It really gets you thinking."

Stephen set a goal of $5,000 -- a goal he thinks he reached.
