OGDEN -- A man awaiting trial on charges of aggravated murder in Weber County has sent a bizarre letter to a local newspaper attacking those testifying against him.
Jeremy Lee Valdes is charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of a Roy woman and her son last winter.
In the letter sent to the Ogden Standard-Examiner, Valdes claims one police officer was drunk on the stand when testifying against him. Valdes also questions the credibility of his ex-girlfriend, Miranda Statler, who already is serving a 20 year prison sentence for her role in the crimes.
Valdes ends the letter by asking the paper to bring back the comic strip "Garfield."
The Standard-Examiner says Valdes' attorney did not know about the letter until the paper contacted him.
Roy police have said they believe prescription drug theft may have led to the murders of Pamela Jeffries and her son Matthew Roddy. Their bodies were found inside a closet in their home.
