Free meal from a stranger

Nish M.

“My family and I were eating brunch in Layton a few months ago. We were enjoying our meal (our big splurge of the week), when our waitress informed us that our meal had been paid for! Such a nice gesture, so we decided to "pay it forward " for another family!”

Help at the grocery store

Chloe L.

“(I) was at the checkout line in Wal-Mart, waiting while my 4-month-old became progressively more fussy. I was loading my cart with one hand and holding and trying to occupy my baby with the other, but it wasn't working too well. Suddenly I hear, ‘I'm sorry, but can I load your cart for you?’ I turn to look and the next man in line, a mature gentleman, was standing there. I gratefully accepted. It made me cry because it was so kind of him to notice me and offer to help. I'm going to teach my children to be like that.”

Helping out someone in need

Alysia H.

“We have an older dog that has had some very high veterinary bills recently. It had only been about two months since her last high vet bill and she ended up getting attacked by a dog. The bill was going to be over $1,000 for her emergency surgery. It was at night and only one vet clinic was open. I had no choice but to pay their fee for the surgery. I started bawling when they told me the total. I had just paid all of her previous bills and used the rest of the money as a down payment on a home.

“Since we were buying a home, we couldn’t finance the surgery or we would risk losing our mortgage approval. I went home and broke into my emergency cash stash and stopped at the ATM to get any available money from my account. Between that money and some Visa gift cards, I had collected just enough by the time the surgery was finished. When I went to pick up my dog, the vet tech informed me that $100 of my bill was paid for by a lady that had overheard my situation. That was $100 of her hard-earned money she spent on a total stranger. … I don’t know why she was there, but that night I realized good people do exist.”
