SALT LAKE CITY — The mother of a man fatally shot by Utah police will not be able to refile a lawsuit against the police department that shot him.
In a Monday ruling, U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell said Susan Hunt had not presented any new evidence or arguments she didn't make in February, when Campbell ruled that Hunt had to accept a $900,000 settlement agreement with the Saratoga Springs Police.
Hunt initially told her lawyer she agreed with the settlement, but then told reporters she rejected the settlement because she said it would bar her from talking publicly about her son, 22-year-old son Darrien Hunt. He was shot and killed by police while holding a costume samurai sword in 2014.
Hunt argued she should be able to continue the lawsuit because she did not authorize her attorney to make the deal.
