SALT LAKE CITY — Here are four more fun stories from the world of sports in today's From Left Field!
1. Utah's Sam Gordon the face of football for girls in new video
Sam Gordon's been a viral sensation ever since she was eight years old, when she starred in a viral video showing her running away from the boys on the football field.
Now, though, she's the voice of girls everywhere playing tackle football. In this video produced by Bleacher Report, Sam Gordon talks about what she wants to accomplish, and even gets some nice words from USWNT striker Alex Morgan.
Alex Morgan: Sam Gordon is probably the most fearless girl that I’ve ever methttps://t.co/OSaqE2nGuj — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) July 18, 2016
We're rooting for you, Sam.
2. The most incredible double play you'll ever see
Sure, this took place at the minor league level. But Pittsburg Pirates draft pick Stephen Alamais made an incredible catch and throw on this double play. It has to bee seen to be believed:
How does he aim it so accurately while he's horizontal to the ground from 90 feet away? It's absurd. I honestly thought it was a trick of video editing. It's not. Well done.
3. Summer league buzzer beater
The final game of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas was Monday night, and it was a fantastic one between Chicago and Minnesota: two consecutive 3-point shots in the final five seconds of the game sent it to overtime.
OT wasn't any less tense, but Bulls draft pick and college player of the year Denzel Valentine hit this buzzer beater to win the entire tournament:
The Bulls went undefeated during summer league to win the title.
4. Aroldis Chapman throws 105 miles per hour
Chapman broke his own record for MLB's fastest pitch last night, when he unleashed this one at 105.1 miles per hour.
And now you know what a 105 MPH fastball looks like.
