Two storm systems (with one of those being remnants of tropical storm Rachel) will work together to bring periods of rain to all of Utah from Saturday through Wednesday. Scattered showers and storms will develop Saturday, so if you have outdoor events - keep the rain gear handy. Rain will become widespread early Sunday morning and will continue at times through Monday. During this time, rain will be the most intense. Sunday will be the day with the most hazards - flash flooding, strong to severe wind gusts, and we can't rule out the chance for a brief tornado or two across southern and east-central Utah. The flash flooding threat is highest in southwest Utah, but possible statewide Saturday through Monday. The wind threat is strongest in west central and southwest Utah, especially in the mountains where gusts could exceed 65 mph. When you have heavy rain saturating soils, then strong to severe wind gusts - that can down trees leading to damage, power outages and injuries. Rainfall totals from Saturday to Wednesday in general look to be around 1-2 inches in the valleys and 2-4" in the mountains. There will be localized areas with higher totals and some with less because of a number of factors.
