Maternity leave goes so fast

Benjamin is now three months old so I'm back at work. My first day is today, and I'm kind of in a daze. I woke up at 3:15 AM, but for the first time in 12 weeks I didn't go back to sleep after feeding a baby. Instead I came to work! I was afraid I wouldn't remember what I was doing, and was worried before my first live shot at 5 AM. But things came back to me. I remember a bit of a learning curve after I had my first baby and came back here. While I was gone that time we started broadcasting on FM and had many other changes. This time there haven't been too many changes while I was gone.

It's been so great to see everyone again in the newsroom -- I missed Amanda and Grant, and even Adam Thomas. My cubicle buddies Paul Nelson and Marc Giauque seem happy to see me back and don't mind more pictures popping up above my desk.

A lot of news happened the past 12 weeks. I was a spectator and consumer of news only, instead of on the front lines. Earthquakes, blizzards, primaries, deaths -- it all seemed to take place. I joked to my collegues they covered it all and there's no news left! My dad told me the US Patent Office closed or tried to close in the 1800s because they said there was nothing else left to invent.

Here's glad to be back, but now it's time to rush home and snuggle that baby.
