Prep a whole batch of smoothie bags for a quick, nutritious breakfast!

Get a big boost on your daily fiber and protein intake all before 10 a.m.! A meal-prepped smoothie bag can help you conquer your mornings and stick to a healthy lifestyle. Suzy Bunker shared the recipe for her favorite nutrient-dense breakfast.

Smoothie Bags

  • Handful of greens (spinach, kale, baby kale, power greens, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup frozen fruit (any mix or 1/2 banana)
  • 1 serving of protein (protein powder, ½ cup yogurt, 3 tablespoons hemp seeds)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chia or flax seeds
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon organic peanut or almond butter

METHOD

  1. Put all the ingredients you want for your smoothie into a sandwich size Ziploc bag (everything you want to be in it except the liquid).
  2. Seal the bag shut. Label if needed.
  3. Before blending, add 1 to 1 ½ cup liquid into the blender, dump the smoothie bag ingredients into the blender and mix until smooth. Enjoy!

Notes

  • When you make the smoothie, you will need 1 cup+ of liquid to start. I prefer almond milk, coconut milk, coconut water or water, but I also like to add ½ cup plain kefir for probiotics as part of my liquid. You could also use ½ cup greek yogurt.
  • The bags stay good for a month or so but you’ll probably go through them faster than that! Trust me, it’s a great prep idea and it really helps you get the nutrition in the morning that our brains & bodies need so badly! And, it takes less than 30 seconds to blend!
