A 65-year-old teacher in Burrillville, Rhode Island has been charged with assault after she allegedly poked a misbehaving student in the chest.

Naomi Roberts pleaded not guilty to simple assault Tuesday in Providence District Court.

Roberts allegedly poked the 10-year-old boy in the chest with a pointer, leaving a small red mark, because he was talking too loud in class.

The fifth grade teacher works at Steere Farm Elementary School.

Roberts was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
