SALT LAKE CITY — Millions of Americans are told every year that they're prediabetic. According to nutritionist Ali Essig, many of those people make a common mistake after hearing that diagnosis: they set out to try and avoid carbohydrates completely.

Essig said we don't have to fear carbs. She shared other ways to improve insulin sensitivity.

Cut saturated fat intake in half

Eat more fiber
